How inflation affects purchasing power

Inflation erodes the purchasing power of money over time. The formula used here is the compound interest model: Adjusted = Amount × (1 + rate/100)^years. For example, $100 in 2000 at 3% annual inflation ≈ $203 in 2024. The US long-run average CPI inflation rate is about 3–3.5%.
